Our unique program combines exercise with ketamine infusions to provide a holistic and transformative experience.
Ketamine, a general anesthetic widely used in operating rooms since the 1970s, has shown rapid and profound antidepressant effects when administered in low doses intravenously. Over the last two decades, extensive research has demonstrated the effectiveness of ketamine infusion therapy in providing relief for depression and other mental health conditions.
Enhanced Mood and Motivation: Ketamine has shown promise in alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety. When combined with exercise, the infusion can elevate mood and motivation, making workouts more enjoyable and rewarding.
Reduced Pain and Improved Performance: Ketamine’s analgesic properties can help individuals manage pain during exercise, enabling them to push beyond their limits and achieve better results.
Faster Recovery: Ketamine’s ability to promote cellular repair and reduce inflammation may lead to faster recovery times after strenuous workouts, allowing you to bounce back and train more consistently.
Heightened Mind-Body Connection: Ketamine infusions can enhance mindfulness and promote a stronger mind-body connection during exercise, helping you stay present and focused on your fitness journey.
Ketamine infusion therapy primarily targets major depressive disorder (MDD) and treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Research indicates that ketamine infusion therapy boasts a success rate as high as 70% in treating MDD and TRD. Many patients experience significant improvement after just one or two infusions, with 35% reporting complete resolution of depression symptoms. Additionally, 63% of patients with suicidal ideation no longer experience suicidal thoughts within three days of treatment. Ketamine has also proven effective in treating anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Ketamine differs from traditional antidepressants, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), as it targets NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptors and increases glutamate levels, the brain’s most powerful chemical messenger. This process strengthens and restores vital neural connections and pathways in regions of the brain impacted by depression, leading to positive changes in brain circuit function and improved mood regulation. Low-dose ketamine infusion therapy can rapidly produce significant symptom improvement, often within hours to days, with a greater reach and impact on brain cells compared to antidepressants.
The initial ketamine infusion therapy consists of six IV treatments over three weeks, with an average of two treatments per week. If symptoms are successfully controlled, follow-up evaluations will determine the need for long-term treatment plans and maintenance treatments, which may require infusions every two to four weeks. Side effects during the treatment session are usually mild and transient, including disassociation, feeling strange or loopy, dream-like states, double vision, loss of appetite, trouble speaking, elevated heart rate, slight pain at the injection site, nausea, and elevated blood pressure.
To initiate ketamine infusion therapy, consult with your healthcare provider. If interested in treatment with Dr Emenike, the staff will gather information about your symptoms and medical history, discuss the treatment process, and schedule your treatment sessions. Unfortunately, except for Kaiser insurance, ketamine infusion therapy is not eligible for insurance reimbursement at this time, but it remains an affordable option for depression and other psychiatric indications.
